Septic Tank Riser Installation So Every Pump-Out Starts at the Lid

1620 Sanitation installs septic tank risers for homeowners across Southeastern MA, and we recommend them. A riser brings a buried tank opening up to the lawn, and if the tank has never been found, we find it first and confirm your price before any work begins.

  • Risers Installed: Buried tank openings brought up to the lawn.
  • Tank Found First: Located with a signal, a receiver, and a probe rod.
  • Price Set Upfront: Confirmed before any work begins, and it does not change.
  • Southeastern MA: Plymouth, Bristol, and Barnstable Counties.

Homeowners on Septic

Septic Riser Installation for Homeowners

Most people asking about septic tank risers have paid for the same dig more than once. The lids sit somewhere under the grass, so every pump-out and every inspection begins with a search and a shovel before any real work happens. Others are getting ready to sell, just bought a house on septic, or have a cover in the yard they no longer trust. Whatever the reason, a riser turns a buried tank into one you can reach from the lawn.

For Homeowners Tired of the Dig

If your last few pump-out invoices included time spent finding and uncovering the lids, a riser is the fix for that line item. Tell us how deep the covers were the last time they were opened, whether the tank has ever been located, and when the next pump-out is due. We talk through which openings would benefit from a riser and confirm your price before anything starts. Once the riser is in, the next service visit begins at a lid you can see, not with a shovel.

For Sellers, Buyers, and New Owners

A Title 5 inspection needs access to the tank, and a house sale is a bad time to discover nobody knows where the covers are. Some local Boards of Health also set their own rules about how close to the surface the covers should be, so it pays to ask your town early. If you just bought the home, a riser is an easy way to start your ownership with a system you can actually reach and keep an eye on. We can find the tank, install the risers, and perform the Title 5 inspection, so you deal with one company from start to finish.

What a Riser Does

What Septic Tank Riser Installation Involves

A septic tank riser is simple in principle: a watertight extension that runs from the tank opening up toward the surface, capped with a secured lid. What makes one worth having is how it is fitted, sealed, and closed, because a riser becomes a permanent doorway to your septic tank. Here is what a riser is, how the lid should work, and how finding the tank and knowing the rules fit around the installation.

Risers and Riser Lids

What a septic tank riser is, which openings usually get one, and what separates a safe, secured lid from a hazard in the yard.

How It Works

How Septic Tank Riser Installation Works

Getting risers on your septic tank starts with a conversation about the tank you have. Whether the lids were uncovered at the last pump-out or nobody has seen the tank in years, the steps below show how the job comes together. Anything you can share up front, from old paperwork to how deep the lids were last time, helps us plan it.

1

Reach us by phone or through the form with the property address, what you know about the tank, and how deep the covers were the last time anyone opened them. Mention whether a pump-out or a Title 5 inspection is coming up, since that affects how the work is planned. We use what you share to put together your free estimate.

2

If the tank location is unknown, we start by locating it. We usually begin by requesting your system's plans from the local Board of Health, then trace the drain line with a signal and receiver and confirm the tank with a probe rod, which sometimes takes some trial and error. If the drain line can only be reached from indoors, someone will need to be home to let us in.

3

With the tank found, we talk through which openings should get risers and where the lids will sit in your lawn. Your price is confirmed before any work begins, and it does not change afterward. If you have questions about the lid or the materials, this is the time to ask them.

4

A riser installation means exposing the tank opening, fitting the riser to it, sealing the joint so groundwater and surface water stay out, and closing the top with a secured lid. The soil then goes back in around the riser so the lid is the only part you see. Keep children and pets indoors while the tank is open.

5

You get a written record of the visit showing the date and the work done, which is worth filing with your house paperwork. From then on, the next pump-out or inspection starts by lifting a lid. If you would like the tank on a recurring pumping schedule, we can set that up for your home too.

Common Questions About Septic Tank Risers

Homeowners weighing septic tank risers tend to ask the same handful of questions, so here they are with plain answers. If your situation is different, call and describe your tank and yard; it is usually a quick conversation. The answers below cover general guidance and Massachusetts rules, and your town's Board of Health has the final word on local requirements.

General Questions

A septic tank riser is a watertight extension that fits over a tank opening and brings it up to or near the surface, with a secured lid on top. It replaces the dig that otherwise happens every time the tank is pumped or inspected. Risers are commonly made of plastic or precast concrete and are stacked in sections to match the depth of the tank.
